Aims:
1. to prepare for your first newspaper interview or press conference 2. to learn how to prepare a powerful press statement and use it for your own benefit 3. to learn how print media work and what they need from you 4. to learn how to protect your rights and how to feel secure.
Content:
This training focuses on interviews between researchers and journalists.
Part 1: Differences between the way media and science work and how they can benefit from each other.
Part 2: Exercise: Making powerful statements. How to speak about your research in a way jounalists can appreciate.
Part 3: Exercise: Dealing with difficult situations and questions.
Part 4: Learning about your rights and how to avoid common mistakes.
Part 5: Q&A: ask your questions!
Part 6: Basic facts for radio and TV-interviews.
Throughout the workshop, there will be plenty of exercises. Participants will receive valuable theoretical input and a written script.
In preparation for the workshop, participants will write a statement on their own field of research and on the potential outcome that might be of interest to the public. Read out loud, these statements should be about 30 seconds long. Details and a small questionnaire will follow after you have booked a place!
